Yeah . . . I know this book came out several years ago and it’s optimal review date may have passed but I have to make sure this one is in our database for keyword searches on this site.
Hicks does a great job telling the background story of this famous Confederate submarine and brings the reader to modern-day and narrates the story of how the once-lost submarine was found and finally raised in 2000. I could not put this book down when I first read it.
The story of preservation and understanding what happened on February 17, 1864 – when the sub sank after disembowing the Housatonic in Charleston Harbor – continues to be written and told.
Start with this book. Move on to The Hunley by Mark K. Ragan after Hicks.
